Preschool Programs
Developmentally Appropriate Practice is the hallmark of a quality early childhood center. It means that what we do and how we teach is grounded in the latest research on child development and educational effectiveness. From this knowledge base, we know a great deal about how children learn and grow through the various ages and stages of early childhood. We know what approaches and what type of environment work best for children and we strive to keep our program hands-on and up to date.
Toddlers Program
In our toddler program we place a great emphasis on the teacher/child relationship. This means lots of caring interactions, simple communication and nurturing are the cornerstone of this classroom. Children will be exposed to a variety of early music, art and sensory activities indoors and outdoors. Children follow comforting routines while being introduced to many new experiences to enhance their development.
Two’s Program
This program also relies heavily on the teacher/child relationship in order to help children build their self-esteem and take on new challenges. This is the age of independence and “I can do it all by myself.” We encourage children to choose a variety of activities in the classroom as well as introduce them to new concepts through planned individual and group work. This is also the age of toilet training. We will follow the child’s lead and work closely with families during this time. The classroom is equipped with a bathroom just the right size for those little legs.
Pre-Kindergarten Program
In this program we place lots of emphasis not just on the teacher/child relationship but also the pier group relationship. We work actively to create a learning environment that will support the child’s need to make friends, work cooperatively and independently. Our classrooms are multi-age two year programs that allow children to learn from older children as well as grow to be leaders themselves. This age group also allows us to work on writing, reading and math skills in a developmentally appropriate setting. Our teachers write their own curriculum throughout the year, but we do use Handwriting Without Tears and Math Their Way activities to ensure that our graduates are well prepared for kindergarten.
